Thanks Audrey! Yes, I will be doing bike and elliptical for starters to get back into it slowly. Can't overdo it for a while and I'm itching to get to the gym like yesterday LOL

Jen, I checked out the glucosamine stuff and might try it out down the road.

Oh, Angie, sorry it hasn't gotten better!

I had a knee problem recently and slacked off working out for a while. It didn't seem to help by slacking off (of course I was still active, walking, bending, and such around the house). Honestly, it didn't get better until I started taking something with what the poster said above, glucosamine/chondroiton/MSM product. They're pretty inexpensive at the store and it might help.

Other than that, if I felt I needed to do something, I think I would choose swimming since it's probably the easiest on the joints.

I hope you get better soon! :-)

Angie,

I do the stationary bike and also a treadmill type machine. It has two platforms, one for each foot and it's slanted upward. In 40 minutes you can burn 400-500 calories.

I'm so sorry your knee is still bothering you.

Thank you all for your helpful and encouraging words. I truly appreciate all of you taking the time to come here and share. I am feeling a little better about my decision today. As of right now, I am going to take a break for one week and do no formal exercise. I'm going to have to change my gym schedule around because I don't want to be at the gym the same time they are having Turbo Kick class, too tempting LOL and hopefully there might be other low impact classes that I can try out sometime.

I'm so thankful for the time you all took to help me through this. You're the best!

Aww Angie that stinks! Taking a week or two off all together may be just what you need. Have you tried 10 minute trainer? Not hard on the knees and gives me a really good workout in just 10 minutes. I actually feel like worked out harder than when I do Turbo Jam.

Another one is Fit Yummy Mummy. I really like that one and it burns tons of calories and you choose your workouts so you can pick moves that don't strain the knees.

Anywho, I will pray for a speedy recovery for you!

God Bless,

Angie,

I feel your pain. I don't know if you remember, but I was out of it for a good month because of my ankle. Rest is a good thing sometimes even though our body is jumping out of our skin because it wan't to exercise. I think swimming will help you out a lot and not put so much stress on your knees. The bike and elleptical trainer are much better on the knees and you can make it a intense cardio workout by doing interval training. Weights are also really good and you can focus on your upper body for now if you like... until your knee gets better! You will be ok, I know it! You have a determination that I admire sooo much! Keep your head up, girl. You'll get through this and come out stronger!

I started getting some knee pain as well while exercising, and talked to the exercise techs and PT and they felt the best thing to do was to work my quads to better support my knee. Of course there are various exercises to do that, and some of them can be a bit rough on the knees themselves, depending.

Joint pain is so miserable. I know this has to be very frustrating for you at this point in your journey. You've accomplished so much and now you have pain making you take a new path for your health.

I hope you find a good solution. Not having insurance is probably just as frustrating as being in pain (then again so is having insurance sometimes -lol- with all the insurance hoops to jump through)

Hi Angie, I have knee pain too, and before I lost weight I hurt my knee so badly that I was sure I needed surgery. Well, to make a long story short, I didn't need anything, but xrays and an ultrasound surprised me with the results that I only had mild arthritis. So, I wonder if you think this is chronic pain or an injury. If its just chronic pain (like arthritis,) you could try glucosamine/MSM/chrondoitin. Also, I hate to say it, but taking more weight off will have dramatic results with chronic knee pain. I know for sure, and that is why I have decided to get the last 30 pounds off. Well, if I can be of any more help, let me know. I think you were right to stop the kickboxing for now. I think walking combined with weight training should be okay.
