It&#8217;s so nice to get back to our home gym after traveling for a while even though I&#8217;ll be heading out again at the end of the week on a business trip.</p>
<p>I have every intention to exercise while I am gone.  Whether it be in the hotel room or hotel gym, I am going to do something.  Too bad the pool is outdoors (in Atlanta). This conference I go to is constant go go go but I&#8217;m going to take time for myself and get it done!<span id="more-5327"></span></p>
<p>I have already messed up with my food journal goal I set for this year so by golly I&#8217;m going to stick to this every day in February fitness goal.</p>

		<title>No Excuses</title>

This post will be short and sweet but I did want to say that I am proud of myself.</p>
<p>If you recall I posted <a title="2012 goals" href="http://losingitandlovingit.com/blog/5079/looking-back-looking-forward/" target="_blank">my goals for 2012</a> and two of them were to keep a food journal AND follow the mantra fitness every day.  Happy to report that I did just that.  Although I was sick, I did very VERY light moves but I did them.</p>
<p><span id="more-5199"></span>So here&#8217;s what the week looked like. Again, nothing exciting but there was movement every day ha ha</p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>Monday-</strong></span></p>
<p>*Exercise ball (Abs)</p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>Tuesday-</strong></span></p>
<p>*Exercise ball (Abs)</p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>Wednesday-</strong></span></p>
<p>*Upper body with bands</p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>Thursday-</strong></span></p>
<p>*Lower body moves (squats, leg lifts, etc.)</p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>Friday-</strong></span></p>
<p>*Mix of lower/upper body moves</p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>Saturday-</strong></span></p>
<p>*Upper body moves</p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>Sunday-</strong></span></p>
<p>*Upper body with bands</p>
<p>Oh and I did my weekly weigh in today. I did not lose but I did not gain either.  Hopefully we&#8217;ll see a loss next Sunday, that is if my stepdaughter and her hubby have a scale LOL</p>
<p>Now is the time to start kicking it up. Summertime will be here before we know it (it&#8217;s hard to believe we have not even had snow in Chicago yet).  But the best part about getting in shape for summer NOW is that you can keep it under wraps under all the winter clothing and shock your friends and family when it comes time to shed the winter wear.</p>
<p>It won&#8217;t be long before you achieve some of your goals. I&#8217;m hoping to see a difference in the next eight weeks at least.  Don&#8217;t forget to mix up your routine every few weeks if not more so you keep things moving along.</p>
<p>Here are some tips to help you to get started now:</p>
<p><strong>* Eat a sensible diet</strong></p>
<p>In the winter, most people want to sit around and graze. Use this time to experiment with new and exciting foods. Try a few winter vegetables and fresh fruit. Use the fruit them in smoothies or on top of hot cereal. Since you are not moving much on some days, use this opportunity to cut down on your meals and watch your portions. Add frozen chopped vegetables to your soups to beef up (no pun intended) your nutrient count.</p>
<p><strong>* Get outdoors and get active</strong></p>
<p>Walk or jog in the crisp air. Ride bikes, go snowboarding, skiing and even hike with family or friends.  Just dress accordingly and stay warm!</p>
<p><strong>* Go to the gym or recreation center</strong></p>
<p>When the weather gets too cold outside, bring it indoors. Take a fun fitness class or play basketball, swim or get your workout on. The cold temperatures should not discourage you to workout.</p>
<p>and lastly&#8230;</p>
<p><strong>* Buy that bathing suit</strong></p>
<p>You can get a lot of good deals now on bathing suits because it is off season. Use it as a measure of how well you are doing in your program and to give you the incentive to keep going.  You can even try it on each month to see how much closer you are to your goal.</p>

		<title>Travel Week Workouts 12/12/11</title>

Myers Beach, FL" src="http://losingitandlovingit.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Ft.-Myers-Beach-FL1-224x300.jpg" alt="" width="224" height="300" />This week was a travel week so I did the best I could considering I also fell down on some gravel here in FL while on my business trip (I know, clutz lol) and hurt my left leg and knee.  I&#8217;ll survive and it&#8217;s been a real nice stay here but I&#8217;m ready to get home to my hubby and my own bed.  I don&#8217;t ever sleep very well without him so I&#8217;m exhausted.</span></p>

<p><span style="color: #000000;"><strong>*Strength/weights upper body</strong></span><br />
<span style="color: #000000;">Time: 10 min.</span></p>

<p><span style="color: #000000;">Short on time this week but wanted to make sure I got in some sort of workout.  It was fun bouncing around to some fun music.</span></p>

<p><span style="color: #000000;">Need to add the rest of my HBBC points when I get back.  Hoping to get in some workouts this week with family here but Kev and I will be back at our team workouts soon.  I look forward to that!  It&#8217;s been a while because he has had a bum shoulder.</span></p>

<p>Today was boxing with Slam Man &amp; some shadow and kickboxing too.</p>

<p><strong>*Extreme Burn DVD</strong> (new workout I&#8217;m reviewing)<br />
Time: 42 min.<br />
Calories burned: 580</p>
<p><span style="color: #ff6600;">HBBC challenge= 4 pts.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>Thursday-Sunday-</strong></span>NADA #FAIL</p>
<p>Actually I did a new workout this week and it was a bit much for me.  Don&#8217;t get me wrong, I absolutely loved it but my knee didn&#8217;t and I paid for it dearly.  I know when I have to take it easy and so that is what I did.  But I did want to review Mike Donavanik&#8217;s Extreme Burn Total Body Interval Training workout with you because for those of you who have no knee issues, I think it&#8217;s a very cool workout.  Lots of fun and challenging moves.</p>
<p><a href="http://mikedfitness.com/"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-4969" title="Extreme Burn Interval Training workout DVD" src="http://losingitandlovingit.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/ExtremeBurn_Front-Cover-1-199x300.jpg" alt="" width="199" height="300" /></a>Extreme Burn is a six week full body program.  It has three different workouts which combine strength and cardio. You can buy the DVD at <a title="Mike D Fitness" href="http://mikedfitness.com/" target="_blank">Mike D Fitness</a>.  I do believe that anyone can do this workout, even beginners.</p>
<p>I did have to modify some of the moves as I went through the 1st workout which was about 40 minutes.  As you can see above, I did burn over 500 calories so I consider that a SUCCESS!</p>
<p>You do need two sets of weights, a light one and a medium to heavy set.  I love the upper body portions of the workout I did.</p>
<p>I would definitely like to be able to do more of this DVD but for now I have to lay off of it until I get a bit more strength in my knees I think.  Keeping fingers crossed that I can do it sooner than later because I really want to do more interval training.</p>

We got back from St. Thomas last weekend and I really slacked this week.  While we were there, I did not do any formal exercise as I had planned.  The Marriott did have a real nice workout room but we were gone pretty much from morning to night with excursions like snorkeling, swimming with sea lions and turtles and more.  You can read about our experience on the <a title="Frenchman's Reef Marriott blog" href="http://www.paradisebymarriott.com/blog/frenchmans-reef" target="_blank">Marriott blog</a>.  We spent most of our days outdoors in the water and walking around so we counted that as exercise!</p>
<p>Got back to Chicago and we were exhausted so we have been trying to catch up on sleep and getting ready for the next few trips that are planned.  So here are the workouts that did happen this week.</p>

Time: 45 min.<br />
Miles: 2.40<br />
Calories burned: 655</p>
<p><strong>*Upper body/core work</strong><br />
Time: 30 min.</p>

<p>Totally bombed the Pile on the Miles challenge but the <a title="Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge" href="http://www.runtothefinish.com/2011/10/holiday-bootie-buster-challenge-2011.html ">Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge</a> just started yesterday so I&#8217;ll be trying to stick with that through Jan. 6th.  Check it out and see what you think!</p>

<p>I hit the goal of 5 miles for the Pile on the Miles challenge this week (#POTM on Twitter).  Very proud of myself for doing that.  Won&#8217;t be able to check in this coming week for that challenge since we&#8217;ll be traveling but that&#8217;s OK. <p>All workouts in our new home gym!  Loving it.  And just yesterday (Sat.) we went back to our favorite fitness store, <a title="Fitness Factory" href="http://www.fitnessfactory.com/" target="_blank">Fitness Factory</a> where we previously got our spin bikes and treadmill from and ordered my dream machine, the ELLIPTICAL and two other dreamy pieces of equipment, the BOSU and the vertical knee raise/dip.  I think we are pretty much set for a while except I am BEGGING for a body opponent bag for boxing (like <a title="Body Opponent BOB" href="http://store.titleboxing.com/titleboxing-body-opponent-xl.html" target="_blank">BOB</a>).  Anyway, let&#8217;s move on to my workouts for the week. I think it was a great week and hope for another this week.</p>

<p>I forgot to turn my Polar heart rate monitor on at the beginning so 5 min. in I had already burned quite a bit.  Great <a title="Circuit Training at Home Workout" href="http://losingitandlovingit.com/blog/4656/circuit-training-at-home-workout/">circuit training at home workout</a> that I put together myself!</p>

<p>This workout was not planned out and was a total mish mash of things.  Here is what I did:</p>
<p>crunches, leg lifts with band, ball pass crunches, lunges, door entry jumps, medicine ball throw w/Kev, leg lifts, side crunches, reverse ball crunches, ball thigh squeeze, dancing and I ran around the home gym (aka garage).  I would much rather have a planned workout but hey I made it work.</p>

<p>Thank you all so much for your support in voting for us during the Marriott beach blogger contest.  <a title="Marriott Winners" href="http://www.facebook.com/MarriottCaribbeanMexico/posts/204688186259167" target="_blank">WE WON</a> in case you haven&#8217;t heard.  It was all about votes and YOU made it happen.  We can&#8217;t wait to share our experience with you.  I still can&#8217;t believe it!  We&#8217;ll be heading to St. Thomas Virgin Islands and staying at the newly renovated <a title="Frenchman's Reef Marriott Resort" href="http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/sttfr-frenchmans-reef-and-morning-star-marriott-beach-resort/" target="_blank">Frenchman&#8217;s Reef Marriott Resort</a>.  Isn&#8217;t it beautiful?  I know it was meant to be.  You can keep up with our travels on our new Facebook page at <a title="Newton's Travels on Facebook" href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Newtons-Travels/213871015333043" target="_blank">Newton&#8217;s Travels</a>.</p>
<p><span id="more-4321"></span>I&#8217;m looking at my workout calendar for the last 2 weeks and it&#8217;s pretty lame.  After <a title="Boxing in Atlanta, GA" href="http://losingitandlovingit.com/blog/4286/muay-thai-kickboxing-atlanta-ga/">boxing for two days in Atlanta</a> (which was AMAZING), I had planned to take a break that Thursday and get back to workouts at the hotel fitness center the next day but there were other plans in store for me.  I walked out a door leading outside from one of the business conference rooms and twisted my ankle and knee. It was horrible!  THEN that same night clutzo did it again out side.  Needless to say I was in a lot of pain the rest of the time I was there. Thankful that a friend had brought a huge ice pack and let me use it the remainder of my stay.  Plus she shared her Tylenol to help me get through the remaining days.  I am now home and in the process of healing so the plan is to start working out again this week but take it easy.</p>
<p>We have a bit of time before we jet off for St. Thomas so I can get some good workouts in before we leave.  I also want to let you know that the Better Healthy Living challenge will no longer be in September. I&#8217;ll keep you updated but I&#8217;m looking at October or November for the next one.  I&#8217;m still looking for contest giveaway donations so please feel free to <a title="Email me" href="mailto:angie@losingitandlovingit.com" target="_blank">email me</a> if you have something to donate.  And any tips on things you would like to see during the challenge are welcome too!</p>

		<title>Wasa Flatbread Review and Workouts</title>

<p>Had a really tasty treat this week!  Will tell you more in my review below.  But first, here are my workouts for the week which are nothing to write home about but I&#8217;ll get over this hump soon. We are done with the shed and hopefully by the time I return from my business trip next week the garage will be empty and we&#8217;ll be able to start on the remodel of the <a title="home gym garage space" href="http://losingitandlovingit.com/blog/1358/designing-a-home-gym-garage-space/">home gym garage space</a>.</p>
<p>While on my business trip this week, I hope to get some good workouts in at the hotel gym and I get to go to a Muay Thai <a title="Atlanta kickboxing gym" href="http://totalboxing.net/" target="_blank">Atlanta kickboxing gym</a>.  I was going to get in there and really box but have had some back/neck issues so as of right now, I&#8217;m just going to get some boxing training in but you never know.  We&#8217;ll see how I feel come Wednesday!</p>

<p>Ran 3 two minute intervals in Vibrams.  Life is good!  I&#8217;m not going to say it was easy by any means but I feel much more comfortable running now than ever before.</p>

<p>Over the past two weeks I have had the opportunity to sample some Wasa flatbreads (sent to me free for review). These are amazing and I can&#8217;t believe I have not had them before now. These flatbreads are baked with heart healthy ingredients and all natural grains.</p>
<p>I have used them in place of bread plus I have put goat cream cheese with various toppings (fresh tomatoes from my garden, Trader Joe&#8217;s Sun dried tomatoes, etc.).  The thing I love most about these besides the taste is that they are not break your teeth hard crackers. They have a crunch but kind of melt in your mouth. Can&#8217;t say enough good things about this product. You should check out the <a title="Wasa North America Facebook page" href="http://www.facebook.com/wasa" target="_blank">Wasa Facebook page</a> for more great recipe ideas.  I&#8217;m going to try the Original with peanut butter and banana. Yum!</p>
<p>And the great news is that <a title="Wasa" href="http://www.wasa-usa.com/" target="_blank">Wasa</a> has so generously donated a gift pack of Wasa flatbread crackers to us for the September Better Healthy Living challenge here on the blog.  The winner is going to LOVE these!  The 3 pack comes wrapped in a bow in Original, Sesame and Rosemary flavors.  Oh so delicious!  Thank you Wasa!</p>
