How To Stay Healthy On Vacation

By Roey Pimentel of http://www.BeachFamilyVacation.net

Learning how to stay healthy on vacation is easier than some may think.  There are several basic tips for mastering how to stay healthy.

Some of the basic principles of how to stay healthy during the year apply to your vacation time as well.  Many people hit a wall when it comes to diet and exercise while on vacation because of mindset.  For some the term, “vacation” applies to their diet and exercise program.  That boils down to mindset.  This is a really important point!  Overcoming this obstacle can have far greater benefits on how to stay healthy that reach far beyond your vacation.

In other words, if you want to take a vacation from your routine, then something in that routine is not working for you.  To illustrate this point – would you want to go on vacation without your spouse or significant other?  Your answer is probably “no.”  But if you answered “yes” to that question, there may be an issue with your relationship that needs attention.  This is the same with your diet and exercise routine.  If you are looking forward to abandoning it while on vacation, you may need to re-evaluate your diet and exercise program.  Once you tweak your program to one that you are comfortable living with, then it is time to plan how to stay healthy on vacation.

Celebrate health and fitness

I just heard about International Fitness Day for the first time.  This year it takes place globally on Saturday, October 16th.  They have an online expo that started Oct. 12th and ends tomorrow so I’m a bit late for that.  And if you’re in VA., there is a live expo this Saturday.  But for the global celebration on Saturday everyone can do something to participate in International Fitness Day.

Here are a few ideas from their website.

  1. Dedicate at least 30 minutes to exercise
  2. Commit to eating healthy all day
  3. Make a donation to a charity of your choice (American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, etc)

Here are some of my ideas:

  • Start a health and fitness journal
  • If you have a gym membership, take one fitness class a week
  • Step out of your comfort zone and sign up for a race (5k, 1/2 marathon, etc)
  • If you have kids, get outside and be active with them
  • Try one new healthy meal

How will you celebrate health and fitness this Saturday?

100 Days of Weight Loss

We all know that when it comes to weight loss, real life can get in the way and many times we fall off the wagon right?  Well, Linda Spangle, author of 100 Days of Weight Loss agrees and has set up an approach that I think can help us all stay focused and consistent.

Over on my new Losing It and Loving It Facebook fan page, we are going to be following her book and every day I will be posting one of the daily assignments from the book for you to focus on.  You are more than welcome to open up and share your thoughts with everyone or just keep it to yourself.

I’m asking that everyone find a notebook or journal and sign up for the 100 Days Challenge online as well.  The whole goal is to keep you on track with your weight loss/fitness goals for 100 days! There are a lot of great charts, reports, calendars, etc. to help you along the way.

Part 2 Tosca Reno Eat Clean Diet Interview

Welcome to part 2 of my interview with Tosca Reno of The Eat Clean Diet.  Hope you enjoyed the wonderful tips she shared with us yesterday.  I know I did! Here are the last 5 questions of the interview. I’m sure you’ll enjoy them.

6) What are the best types of food to eat before a workout?  after a  workout?

Before a workout you want to eat for energy and after a workout you want to eat for repair. Your pre-workout meal should be heavier in carbs while your post-workout meal should be heavier in protein, although you should eat protein and carbs at each meal. Before your workout, try a banana with a glass of milk or an apple with a handful of raw, unsalted nuts. After your workout, try a protein shake with berries or an egg white omelet with chopped peppers.
