Goal Call Monday: October 20

This week I’m still nursing the knee however I do hope to get to the gym.

My goal is to work out at least 3x and do upper body weights 2x

Still keeping a food journal and I’m going to try to eat 100 calories less three days this week.

What goals have you set for yourself this week?

My Workouts for the Week of 10/13-10/19 2008

Oh this week was nothing too exciting.  Didn’t do much at all due to the knee.  The original pain is gone but I have been having an issue with the back of the knee now so I’m just trying to get over the hump.  I’m still icing twice a day.  Hope to get back to the gym and on the Elliptical sometime this week.

Monday

Tuesday-
Upper body weights

Wednesday-Saturday

Sunday-
45 min. mowing lawn

Went to try on New Balance cross trainer shoes today but they didn’t have my size so we ordered them and they should be at the store in about a week.  Let’s hope they fit right when I go to pick them up.  Kev bought me a knee brace type thing I could wear to the gym but it’s too tight so I have to return that when I go back to the store.

Off to ice the knee!

How did your workouts go this past week?

Don’t Quit

Fit & Healthy Friday time

Today’s Tip: Don’t You Quit

Here is a quote that I have had hanging on my wall for years.  If you happen to know where this quote originated from, please let me know.  I don’t know who the actual author is and would like to give them credit.

DON’T YOU QUIT!
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will.
When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill.
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but have to sigh.
When care is pressing you down a bit.
Rest, if you must…but Don’t You Quit!

Life is queer with its twists and turns.
As every one of us some time learns.
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won, had he stuck it out.
Don’t give up, though the pace seems slow
You may succeed with another blow!

Success is failure turned inside out.
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt.
And you never can tell how close you are
It may be near when it seems so far.
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit
It’s when things seem their worst that
YOU MUST NOT QUIT!

~Author Unknown~

This quote always seems to pull me through when I feel I’m in a tough spot.  This past week has been hard and I’m trying to pull myself out of the funk.  I have not worked out for over a week, I’m eating everything in sight and I was quite excited to head back to the gym tomorrow for spin class, taking it easy of course when yesterday my knee started hurting badly again.  I’m being tested that is for sure but hoping for the best today.

Do you have a favorite quote that you would like to share?

Goal Call Monday: October 13

This week will be different since I can’t do much until Saturday and that is only if my knee is totally ready.

I will do 3 days of upper body strength/weights

Exciting!  But that’s all I can do per doc’s orders.

In addition, I will keep a close eye on my water intake, 10-12 glasses a day, keep up with my food journal and choose healthy food options.

What are your goals for the week?

My Workouts for the Week of 10/6-10/12 2008

Not too great of a week but I did get in some good exercise before the knee issue knocked me down for a while.

Monday-
30 min. Elliptical
50 min. Turbo Kick (last TK class for what I presume to be indefinitely, so sad)
50 reps- Ab Coaster

Tuesday-
15 min. weights/stability ball (included 50 crunches)
15 min. walk outside

Wednesday-
15 min. walk outside

Thursday-Sunday-
Knee injury-no workouts

This week there will be no workouts except I will do some upper body strength training throughout the week.  I was feeling defeated this week but I’m starting to feel better about my decision to no longer take Turbo Kick classes.  I saw a doc yesterday and was able to get a shot similar to cortisone.  It feels much better now and I’m keeping my knee iced.  Will stay off of it as far as exercise for one week and go from there.

Kev printed out the gym schedule for me and there might be an extra spin class that I could take during the week to help make up for missing 2 Turbo Kick classes.  I’m looking forward to getting back on the Elliptical and doing a lot of other stuff at the gym that is for sure.  I will have to ease back into it but I can do longer periods of time on the elliptical at a lower resistance.  So please send good thoughts that I’ll be able to get moving a lot more by next weekend!

Hope you have a great week of workouts.  Please feel free to drop by and let me know what you’re up to.  I could live vicariously through you this week *wink*

Soy Delicious

It’s Fit and Healthy Friday.

Today’s Tip:  Try Soy

The tip today comes from America On the Move.

Soy good for your heart!  Soy foods can lower your risk of heart disease by helping to reduce both your total cholesterol and your LDL (“bad” cholesterol).  Adding 25 grams of soy to your diet every day, the amount shown to lower your risk for heart disease, is easy!  Try soy milk on your cereal, or splash it into your morning tea or coffee.  Soy nuts are delicious on salad and give it a little bit of extra crunch.  Or be creative the next time you host a dinner and try soybeans edamame-style as an appetizer

I thought it was perfect timing to post this since hubby and I have been hooked on edamame lately.  I had heard great things about it as a snack and we added it as an appetizer to our sushi dinner out a few weekends ago.  It was so good.  Then we saw frozen edamame at the grocery store and wanted to try it out at home.  Hubby steamed it and sprinkled sea salt on it.  So tasty and fun to eat I just had to buy another bag for a yummy snack this weekend.

I haven’t tried anything else soy yet but I might try some soy milk in my coffee sometime.

What are your favorite soy based products?
