Sweating during exercise

Here is your Friday Fit and Healthy Lifestyle Tip.

Today’s Tip: Sweating during exercise is OK

Sweating, also known as perspiration is your body’s cooling system.  It helps the internal temperature of your body stay in a normal range.  Sweating during exercise is healthy and your body is supposed to do it so don’t be embarrassed about it.  But don’t be mistaken, sweating is NOT weight loss.

WebMD recommends that you drink plenty of fluids and says, “Many people do not drink enough fluids to balance the loss from sweating from physical activity” so be sure to stay hydrated while exercising.

*Excessive sweating/perspiration should be checked out by your doctor

What exercise makes you sweat the most?

For me, it’s spin class and the Elliptical.  I tried the stair master once and that was one big sweat fest.  Wish I could do it more but with bad knees I just can’t.

Cardio Machines: Do you read while working out?

I have been curious so I’m just going to go ahead and ask.  Been reading a few blogs where they say they exercise while reading magazines on the cardio machines (elliptical, treadmill, stair master, bike, etc.)  I watch some ladies do this at the gym and just wonder how in the world they pay attention and not fall off the machine.  That could be quite dangerous I would think.  I was able to read on the stationary bike however it was a no go on all other machines especially on the elliptical because my eyes could not focus with all that movement I’m making.  I can’t even watch the TV while on the treadmill ha ha

For me personally, I feel you would get a much better workout by focusing on your exercise therefore burning more calories.  But yep, I know everyone has a different reason for working out, I was just wondering how they do it.  Since I’m not that coordinated I just listen to my ipod and focus on my numbers.

Do you read while exercising on cardio machines?

Weekly Weigh In: February 25

Haven’t had the chance to weigh in at the gym so I tried the scale at home and from what I saw last week it has gone down 1 lb. YEA!

Current weight: 216
Goal weight: 140
Pounds left to go: 70 +

I changed my goal weight to read 140 because that seems more attainable to me.  I have set a smaller goal in the mean time and would like to shoot to get back to my lowest of 187 by the end of November.  So that’s 29 lbs to go.  Gotta change some things in my life to make that happen!

How did you do this week?  Check in!  Stay accountable

Menu Plan Monday: February 23

Check out Menu Plan Monday for this week.  I didn’t even go over this menu with hubby, just kinda threw it together. We’ll play every day by ear this week. It seems we don’t ever feel like eating what’s on the menu after spin class on Mon. and Wed. so it’s totally up in the air.  We’ll see!

Monday-
No idea!  LOL

Tuesday-
Pork Chops, potato, veggies (I think)

Wednesday-
Tuna and soup

Thursday-
Pasta w/veggies

Friday-
Turkey Chili

What is on your menu for the week? I really need to try to change it up a bit and possibly try my hand at more cooking.

Blog Birthday, Happy 1 Year

Happy Birthday

On February 22, 2008, I started this blog!  I can’t believe how fast the time has gone.  It’s been a lot of fun and I have learned a lot.  I want to send out a big THANK YOU to my faithful readers and commenters.  This blog would be nothing without you.

It would be my birthday wish that you would share this blog with your friends and family or anyone you can think of who might have weight loss and fitness questions or who might be looking for guidance in this area.  Also, please feel free to contact me with questions and I’ll put all questions in queue to post about in the future.  It’s my goal over the next year to grow my readership here on the blog and with your help, I’ll be sure to accomplish that.

Although I won’t be serving any cake, cookies or brownies on the blog today, I do have an impromptu giveaway.  Just decided today that I would give something to one of my faithful commenters who have commented three or more times over the past year.  I had some fun this morning going through and looking at comments and I truly appreciate those of you who keep coming back to support me!

So I know you all want to know what I’m giving away.  The prize will include the Walk Away the Pounds book and that’s all I’m going to tell ya!  Out of all the pages of commenters, 28 names were put into a bag.  Hubby drew the winner for this impromptu giveaway and the goody package goes to

Mark S

Congrats Mark!  Hope you enjoy your prize package and thank you very much for your support this past year.  I truly appreciate it.

It’s been such a great experience to share my journey with everyone, even the struggles.  I look forward to many years to come.  Hope you have a great week!

OK so sometimes you have to just take a whole weekend and veg out.  Kev and I stayed in ALL weekend and so far have watched 3 movies.  He also rented Mario Kart for Wii and has been playing that.  It’s been so relaxing and I’m really glad we chose to hang at home.  I am ready to get back into exercise this week though. I think I pulled a little something when I did the rowing machine Fri. night but not something a little Excedrin Back and Body can’t take care of LOL

How was your week?
