My goals for the week:

-4 gym days (Spin, Cardio, etc.)

-3 days exercise ball work

*Edited my Fat Loss Quickie workout days and number of days on the exercise ball.  I really thought about it and decided that I don’t want to overdo it and looking at my goal list before, I was starting to do that and we all know when I do too much, I inevitably hurt myself so that is why I changed it.

How did your workouts go this past week?  And what are you goals for this coming week?

Have you heard of the Daily Burn website?

Get your fix at the Daily Burn, a fun online fitness/healthy lifestyle community.

I just found out about the Daily Burn website on this blog post by Tim Ferriss and I’m happy I did. The daily burn website has so much to offer. It’s basically a place to track your fitness, weight loss, food intake and more.  There are groups (weight loss for women, Wii Fit, etc) and forums (Fitness & Exercise, General Health, Motivation and more) plus much more.

The Daily Burn reminds me of The Daily Plate where I have been a member of for quite some time but it seems easier to get around within the Daily Burn website.  There is no fee to sign up but they do offer an affordable PRO account that I might look into at some point.

The initial reason I decided to check it out is because of the food scanner iPhone App they introduced this week.  I am so addicted to my iPhone it’s crazy.  You have to read about the food scanner App because it sounds pretty cool.  The App is available for purchase through iTunesicon.  And the other App they have is for iGoogle which I’m going to play around with to see what it’s all about.

Daily Burn has a blog too!

How to calculate exercise calories burned

It’s time for your Friday Fit & Healthy lifestyle tip!

Today’s Tip:  How to calculate exercise calories burned

Are you aware of how many calories you are burning with each workout that you do?

I have had a few readers inquire about how I know exactly how many calories I burn during a workout.  Every Sunday you’ll notice that when I post  my daily exercise log for the week I will have added my calories burned for almost every workout that I do.  I like to keep track of that although I’m not counting calories food wise at this time.  It just helps me see how hard I’m working and whether I need to kick it up a notch.

For me personally, I use a Polar heart rate monitor to track my results.  The heart rate monitor can of course do much more but I’ll share all of that in my upcoming review.  The way the heart rate monitor calculates my exercise calories burned has to do with many variables through the settings of the heart rate monitor.  Everything from my age and weight to my personal resting heart rate determines my calorie burn.

If you don’t currently have a heart rate monitor, you can estimate by using this calorie burn calculator.  And this Mayo Clinic activity chart might help as well.

Do you keep track of your exercise calories burned? If so please share your methods.

Daily Exercise Log for the week

Last week was much better as far as workouts go.  I’m betting this week will be even better.  Tomorrow I start the Fat Loss Quickie contest and I’m so excited and a tad nervous.  I was signed up for the program last week but will be starting tomorrow.  I’ll keep you updated as I go along but will be doing a full review of the program in October once I have had time to really check it out.  Hope it goes well!

If you recall, Scott, the cool guy who started the whole Fat Loss Quickie program did a guest blog post on a fast and fun whole body workout for me last month.  It would be great for you to join me in the contest.  I know it’s going to be quite the challenge!

Healthy living links this week

Here are a few healthy living links that I came across this week that I really enjoyed.  Hope you do as well.  If you found or published any interesting blog posts or articles this week on healthy living, please feel free to share.

Be sure to check out other posts and videos at Joy’s Winner or Whiner blog.  Oh and tell me how much you love her blog theme/template.  So cool!

Kimberly has some great tips for updating your kitchen when you shift your diet.

Would a tax on soda make your drink less?

I took the poll and voted no because I don’t drink soda anyway.  I still can’t believe it’s been over 4 years since I have up soda.  One of the best things I ever did for myself.

Do you drink soda?

And lastly, my friend Gina, The Fitnessista, who got my August Bloggy Love award is in OK at a raw cooking school and restaurant, 105 Degrees.  It’s so intriguing to follow her through this experience.  I haven’t eaten any of this type of food but I would love to try out that restaurant if I were in the area.  Here is one of the news clips about the restaurant.

Do you or have you ever eaten raw? What are your thoughts?

Happy Friday,

P.S.

Do you recommend any healthy living magazines?  I have heard that the EatingWell magazine is pretty good but would like to know of others you might recommend.  I have a minor magazine addiction.  Oh OK it’s a major one LOL

Menu Plan to Motivational Monday

Happy Monday!

I know you’re used to seeing Menu Plans here on Monday but for the last few weeks it’s been pretty lame.  Kev and I haven’t been to the grocery store so we are just flying by the seat of our pants when it comes to meals.  We don’t have much in the house but I think we are going to try to go through what we do have so it should be an interesting week.

As for motivation, I am ready to get moving again.  Today was good when it came to exercise and meals but I overdid it on the sweet consumption yikes!  Today I walked 20 min. outside and did 40 min. on the elliptical at the gym.  Tomorrow the plan is a 3-5 mile Walk Away the Pounds dvd and walk outside.

I’m so excited that The Biggest Loser show’s premier is tomorrow night.  Will you watch?  Although I decided not to follow the goal I had to do The Biggest Loser DVD workouts, I’m still going to watch the show.  Looking forward to it!

Next Monday 9/21/09, I start the Fat Loss Quickie program and I’m very nervous ha ha! Scott, the creator of the program has a home office fitness transformation contest starting then and I want to be involved so I decided to get in the program.  It’s free to enter the contest if you become a member of the program.

Many of you ask what my motivation is to keep going and really it’s because I want to be healthy and eat healthy, I want to get rid of body fat and ultimately have a toned body plus our Jamaican vacations are a big motivation.  I need to keep going!  I have had many set backs and have lost and gained back weight but I know that I am not going to quit and that a lifestyle change takes time.

What is your motivation to live a healthy lifestyle?
