Happy Halloween 2009

Happy Halloween everyone!  If you are going out tonight please stay safe.  We are staying in where it’s warm because all of a sudden it got quite cold here in IL.  But that’s OK because that just means we are that much closer to our Jamaican vacation.  I absolutely cannot wait to stick my toes in the warm sand and see this view every day

Pure heaven!

Kev had a dentist appointment today and will have the same procedure done this week as I had done two weeks ago AND I will be have a root canal done at the same time.  Oh I am so not looking forward to that but it has to be done.

Tomorrow is back to working out and I’m looking forward to it.  We have spin class tomorrow morning.  I’ll post my goals for the week tomorrow because well I will only have ONE day of work outs to share on my daily exercise log LOL  And remember TODAY is the last day to sign up for the Pile on the Miles (POTM) challenge.

I mentioned in my post yesterday that I would share a picture of hubby as the Tin Man.  So before I forget here you go (and yes he was wearing a FULL set of woman’s silver tights).  That’s my man!

Have a great weekend,

P.S. I wanted to also let you know that the Bloggy Love awards are on hiatus for now.  I’ll start them up again soon.  In the meantime check out some of my favorite healthy lifestyle blogs.

Boooo! It’s time for some healthy halloween snacks

Happy Halloween! OK, it’s a day early but whose counting?  And nothing like last minute tips for Halloween right?

Today’s Tip: You CAN still enjoy the holiday with healthy Halloween snacks

I was on the search this week for links to share with you and I found quite a few great ones.  These might help you with some last minute snack ideas.

Here are some really cool looking Halloween recipes.  I love the Pizza Mummies and the Pear Witch Project.  So adorable.

I’m so glad to hear some teachers are making the decision to go healthy this Halloween.  Sure it might not be THAT fun but when they are older they will thank him/her for it.  Deb came up with a few fun and tasty ideas. I love the apple/peanut butter combo.  YUM!

Livestrong has quite a few options for guilt free Halloween treats and they also share a list of 100 calorie and 50 calorie treats.  I love York Peppermint Patties!

And lastly Spark People tells us about some high calorie ‘treats’ to watch out for this holiday season and tricks to modify those.  And you’ll see why I have never been to the Cheesecake Factory.  OH MY!

Personally, I’m not big on Halloween. I told hubs I would love to just turn off the lights and go out to dinner but I don’t think that’s going to happen. He said he would hand out the candy so I might just let him but then I usually get the itch to see all the cute little ones in their costumes so maybe we’ll just enjoy the experience.

Every Halloween hubby’s office plans out a theme and last year they were the 7 Dwarf’s and Kev was Dopey. He’s very crafty and makes his own costumes every year.  Here he is as Dopey

Hubby Kevin as Dopey Halloween 2008

Adorable yes?

This year they will all dress up as characters from the Wizard of Oz.  I’ll have pictures to post on Saturday.  And no, I’m not dressing up!  Last year, I enjoyed some funky fake eyelashes and a cool stick on face tattoo but nothing planned for this year.

Are you dressing up for Halloween?

I really don’t like to spend so much $$$ on costumes or Halloween candy and I wait until the last minute anyway.  Kev says I have to buy some candy but I don’t wanna waaaahhhh.  It’s so tempting and I usually cannot control myself.  HELP!

Be safe this Halloween!

P.S. Last Halloween, I shared some healthy Halloween tips.  Enjoy!

Pile on the Miles (POTM)

It’s time to Pile on the Miles from November 1st to Thanksgiving.  Will you join me in the challenge?  All you have to do is head over to Caitlin’s Healthy Tipping Point blog (one of my favorite food/fitness blogs) and read the instructions at the end of this post.

My personal goal is 50 miles! For me this will include in home walking (Walk Away the Pounds) and outdoor walking.  Elliptical and spin (cycling) miles do not count so I’ll be working out extra hard for November because I still plan to get to the gym for those workouts.

Sure praying that I don’t have to set up any further dental surgeries for the month of Nov. or I’ll have to withdraw from the friendly competition. But as of right now, I’m in.

Saturday, October 31st is the last day to enter so head on over to Caitlin’s blog to learn how to sign up for the POTM challenge.

Are you in?

Friday-

What is on your menu plan for the week?

Long week, no workouts

I have no workouts to report this week as I have been down and out with tooth issues.  I did however get one tooth extracted this past Thursday and I’m healing from that.  It’s been a bummer not to work out but I’ll get over it.  I have a lot of work to be done on my teeth but it will all be done over the next year (I have no health insurance which stinks).  It takes 6 weeks for this extraction to fully heal but I’m hoping I don’t have any pain tomorrow so I can start working out again.  Gotta call the dentist in the morning for the go ahead.  I do have a follow up appointment on Wednesday to see how everything is going.  THEN I have to schedule another appointment to fix a broken tooth.  Oh it’s all too crazy!

Don’t need to bore you with more of my pity party! HA!

I’m not going to set any workout goals for the week since I have no clue what I can do as of right now.  So my healthy goals for the week will be

*watch my portions carefully

and

*drink at least 10 glasses of water a day

How did your workouts go last week and what are your goals for this coming week?

Time to get fit with an exercise ball chair

Today’s Tip:  Get fit with an exercise ball chair

exercise ball chair

I have experienced amazing benefits to using an exercise ball as a chair. Sitting on an exercise ball chair (also called the balance ball chair) engages the core and it has helped my leg circulation and the focus on my posture so it’s better.  No more slump!  I feel more energetic with the constant movement on the exercise ball.  Like Leslie Sansone says, it’s active sitting so how can you not get something good from it.  I’m constantly wanting to move side to side and rock back and forth.

My exercise ball chair is just the exercise ball by itself with no back or casters.  I would like one of those at some point but for now the single exercise ball works fine for me.  I don’t sit on it all day long but only every so often.

When to use an exercise ball chair:

*At a desk in your office
*Watching TV in the living room
*Use it when guests are over so they can use normal chairs (although I guarantee you’ll have a fight on your hands once they see your cool chair!)

I would personally say the exercise ball chair is the #1 seat solution for many people!  Of course if you have any health issues like back problems, etc. you’ll want to always check with your physician first to see if it’s OK to use one.

Do you have an exercise ball chair (aka balance ball chair)?  If so, what is the most unique place you have used it.
