Menu Plan Monday: October 19

It’s time for Menu Plan Monday!  I know it’s been quite some time since I have posted our Menu Plan (August to be exact) but I’ll try to get back into it.  This week our plan is to only use what we have on hand and no shopping for anything extra.  Plus Thursday I will have a tooth extraction so most likely will not be eating anything too exciting for a few days after that!

Menu Plan Monday

Monday-

Pork chops, homemade baked beans, veggie

Tuesday-

Shrimp & Crab Jambalaya with a mixture of leftover veggies thrown in (peas, corn, mixed veggies and edamame)

Wednesday-

Pasta with homemade sauce (ground turkey and veggies)

Thursday-

Up in the air

Friday-

Up in the air

What is on your menu plan for the week?

P.S.  I’m in the process of learning what it takes to be a vegetarian and vegan.  I don’t know if either is for me for sure but I am sure willing to experiment.  I am looking for good books, websites, etc. that can give me the basics.  I know I can’t do this overnight but I would like to try to eat more whole healthy foods so that is my main goal.  I’ll write about this in a different post soon, I just wanted to see if I could get some feedback from those who might have been there, done that.

Slow week for workouts

I am not happy how the week went as far as workouts but sometimes you just have to deal with it.  I have been in a lot of pain over the last few months with a broken tooth which has been infected.  Anyway, long story short, I finally found a dentist who was willing to work with me (I have no health insurance) and although everything I need worked on in my mouth will cost about $7600 OUCH, the most important is the extraction of that one tooth THIS WEEK.  So Thursday is my lucky day and although I’m not looking forward to it I will be so happy when it’s out because the constant pain will be gone once it heals.  It’s SIX WEEKS healing time but I’m hoping I’m only down for a day or two after.

With all of this going on, my workouts have gone down hill and I’m ready to bring them back to life!  Working on pumping up both exercise balls with air and looking at my workout goals through November.

Super Saturday Headphone review & giveaway

Happy Saturday!

2xlheadphones

It’s time for a headphone review and giveaway!

I’m excited to share you with you my thoughts on the 2XL family of headphones and ear buds.  The products are stylish and affordable.  And these products also stand out to me because they help ward off bacterial infections you can easily get from normal headphones and ear buds because they hang on the ear instead of having to stuff the ear pieces all the way in the ear.

The 2XL headphone samples that I had the pleasure of trying were very comfortable and the sound is really good.  It took me some time to get used to the new hanging ear buds but once I got the hang of it, it was smooth sailing.

I was sent the GROOVE, SPOKE and RATIO headphones and ear buds to sample and I really like them all.  My top choice at this time is the SPOKE but once I get more used to the GROOVE, I think that one will fast become my favorite.  I really want to try the 4 CORNERS set of headphones because I have always liked that type of headphone set up.

Overall, I really am very happy with the 2XL products and will definitely recommend them to others.  Thank you Lindsey for the opportunity to review these products.

One last quick note:

According to Online Journal of Health and Allied Sciences, harmful bacteria was found on 92 per cent of ear swabs taken from people who regularly shared their earphones with friends, compared with only eight per cent of those who shared less frequently.

There’s some food for thought!  Yikes!

Salad dressing on the side PLEASE

Lately I have been finding myself using more than one serving of salad dressing so by having it on the side of my salad has made me more aware of my intake.

Today’s Tip:  Ask for your salad dressing on the side

You can save yourself some calories by asking for dressing on the side of your salad instead of directly on your salad.  However you still need to be careful with the portion size of those cups of salad dressing restaurants give because they are way more than a serving but that way YOU can control it instead of someone else.  A normal size serving of salad dressing is usually 2 tablespoons so be cautious of your salad dressing intake.

In my recent post on how to build a healthy salad we are sharing our favorite salad ingredients.  Come on by and share if you haven’t already.

When it comes to salad dressings, what is your favorite?  If you have any healthy salad dressing tips or recipes, please share!

Fall has arrived

Happy Fall Ya’ll!  It feels and is starting to look like Fall and although I don’t like the cold weather it does bring us that much closer to our Jamaican vacation.  Oh my it’s so close!  On Saturday we enjoyed a morning at the Moraine Hills State park taking pictures of the changing leaves, so pretty.

10 Ways to Use Twitter for Weight Loss

Here are some fun tips on how to use Twitter on your weight loss/fitness journey.  I’m on Twitter (@angienewton) are you? Please share your Twitter link so we can connect.

Nordic Walking Poles

Have you ever heard of Nordic Walking Poles?  These are so cool and look like they could really give you a good workout.  When I first saw them, I thought they were for snow but I was totally wrong.  Check them out!

Pros and Cons of the Treadmill

I am not a treadmill user because of knee issues and I always want to run when I get on one.  This is a great blog entry about the pros and cons of the treadmill.  One day I’ll be able to use it to it’s full potential but for now the elliptical is my best friend.  If you had to choose, would you pick the treadmill or elliptical?

And lastly, something really pulled at my heartstrings this past week.  Are you familiar with Stephanie and Christian Nielson?  I have been following their story on her blog, NieNie Dialogues since last year when the most horrific thing happened to them.  They were on Oprah this week sharing their story and it was just so emotional. What an amazing story!

I am so thankful for the life I have and don’t want to ever take anything for granted.  I’m most thankful for my loving hubby, family and friends.

Make it a point to stop and think about what you are most thankful for today!

Have a great weekend,

P.S.  My friend Shelly from the Shakin & Bakin Recipe blog has a contest going on to win Tupperware.  Be sure to head on over for a visit to see what she has to offer.  While you’re there be sure to check out this awesome fashion lunch set.  $10 from the sale of each set is donated to children in need via the Tupperware Brands Foundation.
