So the week was OK but I definitely didn’t meet some of the goals I set for myself. No ab/strength training and I didn’t do something active every day.

As you can see today was Day 1 of attempting to run!  My hip is killing me but I’m not giving up yet.  I did get new running shoes from a very cool store (will tell you about that later) and I got some moisture wicking socks.  I found one of my knee braces and I think it’s the one I like best so I’ll need to get a 2nd one.  Next on my list is a really good head band (looking at the ones at Bondi Band)

How did your workouts go this week?

Thursday Thoughts

A 1/2 marathon, am I crazy?  Yep, I think so!

Reggae Marathon

source

So as some of you have heard on Twitter and Facebook, I might be signing up for the December Reggae Marathon in Negril, Jamaica!  Hubs and I would do the 1/2 marathon (run/walk).  I have never run in my life but I do some jogging with the Walk Away the Pounds dvd’s I do at home and have done 3-5 miles with those that are mostly walking.  The head fitness coordinator at our gym who we have known for quite some time is going to bring me a training schedule and get me started on the treadmill. Yikes!  I’m so nervous even talking about it.  It will definitely be a major challenge and I’m going to see if I can’t find and sign up for a local 5k and/or 10k before heading to do the 1/2 marathon.  If anyone is in the Chicago burbs and know of any races coming up or want to join me in one, please let me know!

I have been doing some research the last few days and have found and been given a few website links to visit and I have been making a list of possible accessories I will need.  I think I am going to go ahead and buy the Garmin Forerunner watch but need to read a bit more about it.  Do you have a Garmin?  I will also need a pair of running shoes (most likely New Balance, my go to brand!), knee braces, etc.  Oh and of course I would love to have a treadmill at home too!  Do you run and if so what are your most needed accessories?

I am shocked that the trainer and hubby think I can do this because I just don’t feel it yet.  I am over 230 lbs and wonder if my weight and bad knees will affect how I train. I am going to try my best but I keep saying I really think I should only do the 10k.  We shall see!  Let’s see if we can even book a room at our favorite resort first and then decide.

My 2010 personal goals

It’s time to embrace 2010 so I have set some pretty hefty goals for myself of things I quite possibly would like to accomplish this year.

Angie’s Rockin’ 2010 Healthy Living Personal Goals

  • Do a 5k (walking)
  • Do a 10k (walking)
  • Learn more about the vegetarian/vegan lifestyles while cutting down on processed foods and eating more whole foods (these are some of the things I will try to focus on: Resolve to Eat Right)
  • Lose 50-100 lbs and tons of inches (I would like to fit comfortably in a size 12 by the time we head back to Jamaica in December 2010)
  • Try new class at the gym
  • Participate in a different workout challenge every month (whether it’s my own blog challenge or others)
  • Strength training/Ab work 3x week

I know there is more I want to accomplish and I can update this list as I go along.  I really struggled weight wise in both ’08 & ’09 and just want to be able to learn to Embrace the Struggle this year.

My weeks vary but will look something like this:

Monday- Spin class

Tuesday- In home workout

Wednesday- Spin class

Thursday- In home workout

Friday- In home workout

Saturday- Wii Fit

Sunday- Spin class

It is my goal to do something active every day!

P.S.  Above I linked to the book, Embrace the Struggle by Zig Ziglar. I was given this book to review and found it so encouraging when others shared different ways they have struggled in their life.  Whether it be addiction, physical impairments, financial troubles, etc., it just showed me that everyone goes through tough times and CAN come out on the positive end.

I wish each and every one of you a wonderfully successful 2010!

A few weeks worth of workouts

So this is going to be a few weeks worth of workouts in one post because I just didn’t get a chance to post while on vacation.  The week we left I did OK on workouts. Those are listed below.

Monday-

*Whittle My Middle Ab Challenge (Day 27)
Time: 7 min.

*Spin class
Time: 1 hr
Calories burned: 635

Tuesday-

*Whittle My Middle Ab Challenge (Day 28)
Time: 7 min.

Wednesday-

*Whittle My Middle Ab Challenge (Day 29)
Time: 7 min.

*Spin class
Time: 1 hr 3 min.
Calories burned: 731

Thursday-

*Whittle My Middle Ab Challenge (Day 30)
Time: 7 min.

Yes, I completed the Whittle My Middle Ab Challenge!  There were days I didn’t feel like doing it but I pushed through.  Angela started Whittle My Middle Ab Challenge 2 so I wanted to let you know about it.  I might add it in to my workouts or wait for another month.

While in Jamaica I had really good intentions to workout and we did make it to the gym to use the elliptical and treadmill one time.  Then we went to a spin class and it was not good at all. The instructor we had did things backwards and we knew had some unsafe moves on the spin bike but we went with it….and then later paid for it with some massive pain.  I’m not going to go into it but needless to say we never went back to spin at the resort after that.  Maybe we’ll try again next time!

We did a ton of snorkeling, swimming and walking all over the resort and down the beach so I definitely stayed active.  I wanted to go back to use the equipment however one day it rained all day and I fell TWICE and have some pretty cuts and bruises to show for that!  I am still in pain from that but nothing that will hold me back from working out this coming week.  Got back and have been sick so I don’t have any workouts to show for this week.

Looks like 2010 didn’t start out with a bang like I thought it would HA!  But be sure to be on the lookout for my 2010 goal post because I have high expectations for the year!

P.S. How did your workouts go the past few weeks? I have missed keeping up with many of you.  Trying to get back into the blog world.  Tell me if there is anything exciting on your blog that I might have missed over the past few weeks.
