Kickboxing rocks my socks off

This week I was able to do one day of my Turbo Jam DVD workout (kickboxing) and I loved it.  But I am torn because my knee was truly hurting afterward so I’m just not sure if it’s something I’m ready to get back to even though it is one of my all time favorite workouts.  We will see!

So here are my workouts for the week.  Not too bad but definitely could be better.

101 Days of Summer Challenge

101 Days of Summer Healthy Lifestyle Challenge

My friend Beth is having a 101 Days of Summer Challenge on her blog which will go from Memorial Day to Labor Day. You can read about it here and here.  Those were two posts she had about it and I believe she will have another to start the challenge.

I have taken the challenge! I’m calling it my 101 Days of Summer Healthy Lifestyle Challenge.  I have some major goals that I want to accomplish within the next year so this will be a great push.

To be part of the challenge we have to email Beth every Saturday, send a before picture and have a goal for each week, month and/or an end goal.  I’m not exactly sure what all of my goals are going to be but the initial ones will consist of the following

Healthy Summer Recipes & Healthy BBQ Ideas

Memorial Day is right around the corner!  Planning on having a BBQ?

Did you know…the average BBQ meal contains 3,500 calories? That’s nearly double the calories an average person should consume in an entire day!

Memorial Day is a special holiday for Americans, as we celebrate this day to honor the men and women who serve our country. It also marks the unofficial start to the summer season, which can be especially challenging for people trying to watch their weight. To avoid packing on extra pounds, registered dietitians and nutritionists at Structure House Weight Management, the residential weight loss program voted “America’s Healthiest Diet” by Health magazine, suggest trying these delicious and healthy recipes:

Feeling soooo good

Yep, I am feeling really good!  I know it has something to do with the personal training because my body just feels so much stronger.  I am starting to really focus on looking for good vegetarian meals that are easy to make.  I did end up with a bum knee this week from my Monday personal training sesh but it was not with either of the trainers I had previously.  All is good in the world now that I have chosen primary and secondary trainers.  And my knee is much better!

Now to my workouts for the week….

Bike Riding

Hubby and I have been talking about purchasing two bikes but we are not sure what types of bicycles we want to get.  I’m leaning more towards the mountain bike because I would rather ride on trails than road but I also love the cruisers.  I think Kev wants bikes that can work for both road and trail if there is such a thing.  There is so much out there when it comes to bike riding.  It’s funny that he and I were just talking about this because this week is Bike to Work Week.

Cyclists cite lots of reasons for trading in the car, bus, or train for a two-wheel commute: a good workout, a minuscule carbon footprint, fewer worries about finding a parking space—but one of the most-enticing benefits is the cost savings. And last year Congress added another perk, putting bicycle commuters on the list of those eligible for a transportation tax benefit. Just as employers can provide tax-free reimbursement for the cost of parking or transit passes, now they can also subsidize the cost of biking to work (up to $20 per month).

So, how much can you save biking to work? Calculate the savings you’ll achieve with Kiplinger.com’s “How Much Can I Save Bicycling to Work” Calculator: http://www.kiplinger.com/tools/bike/

Personal training rocks

Awesome 1st full week of personal training.  I have really enjoyed it and although I wish I was paying for an hour it’s only 30 min.  I have trained with two people so far and have one more tomorrow.  Then I choose a primary and secondary personal trainer to work with for the next year.

Here are my workouts for the week….
