I’m a Gym Rat

Did you know I was a gym rat?  Foursquare tells me so because I have been to the gym at least 10x in the pat 30 days.  WOW! Here is what they sent me when I got the badge a few weeks ago

“10x trips in 30 days? Go reward yourself to the nastiest double cheeseburger you can find (bonus points for cheesy fries and milkshakes). And ps: you look nice today!” by Foursquare

Ha that cracks me up! Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be called a gym rat but it’s all good……anyway here are my workouts for the week.

Training for Endurance

Endurance

Pretty good week! Everything I am doing is helping me train for endurance.  Feels like things are coming along though I would have liked to have done more but I think the workouts I did were good.  I’m exhausted that is for sure.  I really want to add in at least one more day of walking during the week so that I am totally prepared to walk the 1/2 marathon.  My calves, hips and everything else is in quite a bit of pain so hopefully by the time the race I’m used to all the walking and can make it through without a whole ton of issues.  Anyway, here is what I did this week.

Life in the Fast (food) Lane

Do you eat at restaurants a lot? We sure have been lately and it’s really a struggle most times to make really good healthy food choices.  We pretty much go to the same places over and over so I don’t have too many different options to choose from.  We also don’t usually plan ahead which I feel makes it hard and I just choose something quick that I think might be better for me over something else.  By the way, I consider places like Applebees, Chili’s, etc. fast food as well.  I truly wish I could cook but that is not something that comes easy for me unless I follow recipes to a T nor is it something that truly interests me.  Hubby and I do enjoy cooking together at home (well he’s the mastermind behind ALL of our meals) but it’s fun and much healthier that is for sure.

So when it comes to dining out, [Read more...]

Leave Only Footprints, Take Only Memories

Love this sign we found on our walk!

Leave Only Footprints
Take Only Memories

This week’s workouts were OK.  After our 3 big walks last weekend over the Labor Day holiday, I was hurting pretty bad. My right knee has been swollen all week and I have been icing it but still doing other workouts, a bit lighter than usual.  Was able to walk today so that was good and look forward to more nice walks next weekend. So here are my workouts for the week.  Overall, good.

Music Notes II

Music Can Drive Routine

As I began to familiarize myself with the gym for the first time, I couldn’t help but notice the large number of people exercising while listening to their mp3 player. I was always critical of these people; constantly mumbling under my breath comments regarding their lack of fitness ambition. It seemed to me as if they were there for pleasure, and it’s my personal experience that the rewards of a good cardio workout don’t come from the feeling of pleasure, but more so pain.

When filtering through a men’s body building magazine, you’ll notice articles featuring men that look like Andre the Giant discussing how pain is their friend.  This is sort of the mind state I had going into it. And from over 10 years of following different, yet strenuous daily exercise routines, I’ve learned that in order to keep this up, I was going to have to find more enjoyment in what I was doing.

Boost the workouts!

Silhouette of a Young Woman Exercising

Workouts this week were really good. I’m totally exhausted though but it’s all good.  Hubby and I are going to go on as many walks as we can outside up until December and quite possibly walk the 1/2 marathon. I’m not sure though at this point if I could make it. I’m honestly still struggling even without running…maybe it’s the mind set but also I’m just not feeling strong enough to do over 4 hours of walking.  I know the 10k would be a good amount for me and would still be a struggle so a good goal to reach for.  I’ll keep you updated as we go along.  I will not make my final decision until we get to Jamaica so it will be a last minute decision.

Here are my workouts for this past week.
