Pre Workout Meals

Happy Friday!  It’s time for your healthy lifestyle tip brought to you by Life Fitness.

Today’s Tip:  Power through your workout with protein

While there are good and bad sugars, healthy and unhealthy fats, your body hasn’t met a protein it didn’t like. The fact is most proteins are equal in terms of their nutritional value and superior in their role as building blocks for muscle creation.

What you eat and when, has incredible influence over your exercise experience. Eat too much right before exercising and you’re likely to feel sluggish, even nauseated, because your body is competing with itself to fuel your digestive system and your workout. Skipping your pre-workout meal, on the other hand, can leave you feeling light-headed, weak and slow to react.

Nutrition Websites & National Nutrition Month

I'm Blogging National Nutrition Month

March is National Nutrition Month and the 2010 theme is “Nutrition From The Ground Up”.

National Nutrition Month® is a nutrition education and information campaign created annually in March by the American Dietetic Association. The campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. Registered Dietitian Day, also celebrated in March, increases awareness of registered dietitians as the indispensable providers of food and nutrition services and recognizes RDs for their commitment to helping people enjoy healthy lives.  source

Salad dressing on the side PLEASE

Lately I have been finding myself using more than one serving of salad dressing so by having it on the side of my salad has made me more aware of my intake.

Today’s Tip:  Ask for your salad dressing on the side

You can save yourself some calories by asking for dressing on the side of your salad instead of directly on your salad.  However you still need to be careful with the portion size of those cups of salad dressing restaurants give because they are way more than a serving but that way YOU can control it instead of someone else.  A normal size serving of salad dressing is usually 2 tablespoons so be cautious of your salad dressing intake.

In my recent post on how to build a healthy salad we are sharing our favorite salad ingredients.  Come on by and share if you haven’t already.

When it comes to salad dressings, what is your favorite?  If you have any healthy salad dressing tips or recipes, please share!

Kimberly has some great tips for updating your kitchen when you shift your diet.

Would a tax on soda make your drink less?

I took the poll and voted no because I don’t drink soda anyway.  I still can’t believe it’s been over 4 years since I have up soda.  One of the best things I ever did for myself.

Do you drink soda?

And lastly, my friend Gina, The Fitnessista, who got my August Bloggy Love award is in OK at a raw cooking school and restaurant, 105 Degrees.  It’s so intriguing to follow her through this experience.  I haven’t eaten any of this type of food but I would love to try out that restaurant if I were in the area.  Here is one of the news clips about the restaurant.

Do you or have you ever eaten raw? What are your thoughts?

Happy Friday,

P.S.

Do you recommend any healthy living magazines?  I have heard that the EatingWell magazine is pretty good but would like to know of others you might recommend.  I have a minor magazine addiction.  Oh OK it’s a major one LOL
