Hindsight is 20/20

Please help me welcome my friend Patti.  She’s an amazing and active woman and a great inspiration.  Enjoy her guest blog post below.

Hi! I’m Patti Winker of RemarkableWrinklies.com. I’m in my late 50s and, by virtue of my age, I have a good deal of hindsight. Now, you know what they say about hindsight – it’s 20/20. Sometimes hindsight makes you regret things, but that’s not what this is about. I want to share a valuable lesson that I learned in hindsight, so you don’t have to wait until you’re in your 50s.

Let’s Be Honest…I’m human

It’s been a rough few months. Injuries had me down and out (excuse #1). We have been working for months on building a shed and remodeling the garage into a home gym that I stopped working out because I was so tired (excuse #2). As you can see, I used every excuse in the book to put my healthy lifestyle on the back burner.

I had lost the motivation to workout which in turn made it hard to keep up with healthy eating. What a mistake! I gained weight back, had no energy and felt mentally exhausted. Honestly I felt like a total failure.

Is Cold Weather Messing With Your Exercise Routines?

Maple Tree Grove in Winter, One of Four Seasons

Many people all over the world are dealing with cold temperatures and lots and LOTS of snow.  They are getting cranky from being cooped up inside are not getting the workouts they are used to.  It’s time to take control and make things happen!

Beat the Winter Fitness Slump

Winter and exercise can be quite the difficult mix. In the summer we are glad to be outdoors but in the winter, not so much. At least it’s that way for me, I do not like the cold at all.  So here are some tips to help you beat that winter fitness slump and get those exercise routines back up and running.  Believe me, I know that many of us would like to be like bears and hibernate when the weather gets cold.  Unfortunately, if we sleep for three months that will be a major problem. So, instead of sleeping the rest of the winter away, let’s get moving!

It can be hard to motivate yourself to exercise when all you want to do is cozy up in that new Snuggie you got this holiday season.  I am in love with my purple Snuggie, don’t know how I ever lived without one.  I digress… Exercise is just as important to the body in the winter months because the body tends to lose heat in the winter so having exercise routines in place is a huge benefit to you. Your body has to work harder to stay warm therefore you burn more calories.  Sounds good to me!

Happy 4th of July

I hope you are having a wonderful day!  I wanted to quickly stop in and wish you a Happy Independence Day.  We started the morning early with a special 60 minute Spin class at the gym.  It was great but boy hubby had to really push me to go today.  I was not feeling too well last night and was really tired this morning but he kept on it and I’m so glad we went.  He even treated me to my favorite Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie.

Nicole, our spin instructor made up an awesome CD last night with all songs that had to do with America, 4th of July, Independence Day, etc.  It was amazing!  She did a fabulous job, go Nicole.

I also wanted to use this post to give thanks and kudos to a few people.

Cindy from Go Workout Mom is celebrating her 1st blog birthday today (Congrats and Happy Birthday, Cindy) and is asking her readers who they want to thank for helping them in their fitness journey.  There are a lot of people I could thank but it would take up a whole page so I’ll just be posting a few of my biggest supporters.

First, I would like to really thank my hubby, Kevin for being such a big support.  He pushes me when I don’t think I can go any further and has been my rock since I started my new lifestyle in August 2005.  He has been patient with my many food changes, cooking healthy meals for us, measuring out my food portions, helping me fill out my daily food journal and so much more.  Thank you honey, you’re the bomb *wink*

Then there are a few online groups that have meant so much to me and I doubt I would’ve kept going without them.

I am so thankful for the members over at the GR8 Bigg Losers yahoo group and the Weight Loss/Fitness forum at WAHM.com.  They have been my support over the years and help me stay accountable on a daily basis and motivate me to always do better.  I’m so thankful for these online friends of mine.

I also would like to thank a few class instructors from the fitness center we’re members of.  Thanks goes to Nicole (Spin), Lisa, Kara and Chicky (Turbo Kick) and Joanie (Spin).  You ladies really have made an impact on me.  I appreciate the time you dedicate to these classes and the thought you put into them to make them so much fun.

So there you have it, many of my supportive pals. Ya’ll are the best.

Happy 4th of July,
