Movin and groovin

OK so last week I dropped the bomb on posting my workouts and now we are a week behind but I wanted to give you a total update on everything going on so you’ll see all workouts below from the week before and this past week.  Things are getting better….I had been sick for a bit after an ear infection, I got bells palsy which was pretty annoying and it’s been a challenge to get through the past two weeks with the addition of having to put our 18 year old cat down the same day it all started.

But I’m happy to say that I am starting to feel better although there are some things that I’m struggling with when it comes to running.  My cardiac numbers are apparently too high and I need to get some things checked.  I can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to run the 1/2 marathon at this point BUT I am going to see if I can walk it.  If not, I might have to ultimately downgrade to the 10K.  I’m not sure how I feel about this because I committed to doing it but I guess if there are health issues I can’t push it.  I’ll keep you updated!

So below you’ll see all recent workouts.

How to calculate exercise calories burned

It’s time for your Friday Fit & Healthy lifestyle tip!

Today’s Tip:  How to calculate exercise calories burned

Are you aware of how many calories you are burning with each workout that you do?

I have had a few readers inquire about how I know exactly how many calories I burn during a workout.  Every Sunday you’ll notice that when I post  my daily exercise log for the week I will have added my calories burned for almost every workout that I do.  I like to keep track of that although I’m not counting calories food wise at this time.  It just helps me see how hard I’m working and whether I need to kick it up a notch.

For me personally, I use a Polar heart rate monitor to track my results.  The heart rate monitor can of course do much more but I’ll share all of that in my upcoming review.  The way the heart rate monitor calculates my exercise calories burned has to do with many variables through the settings of the heart rate monitor.  Everything from my age and weight to my personal resting heart rate determines my calorie burn.

If you don’t currently have a heart rate monitor, you can estimate by using this calorie burn calculator.  And this Mayo Clinic activity chart might help as well.

Do you keep track of your exercise calories burned? If so please share your methods.

30 Day Shred: Days 22-25 Level 3

Checking in to let you know how Days 22-25 went on my 30 Day Shred workout video journey.  I can’t believe I only have 5 more days until I complete the whole workout.  It’s been fun and a total challenge but I am ready to do a variety of different in-home workouts that is for sure.  Level 3 is going by fast.

Day 22-

Another good workout and this day I started in the early morning with the 30 Day Shred workout video and then in the evening went to Aqua Fit class at the gym.  Phew!

July 22nd

28 minutes
163 calories burned
Max Heart Rate: 81%/149
Average Heart Rate: 66%/120

Day 23-

OK, I had to modify the side plank raises because they are just way too hard for me right now.  I keep trying but it’s a bit too much pressure on my knee on the left side so I have been doing other moves in place so it’s all good.

July 23rd

28 minutes
188 calories burned
Max Heart Rate: 86%/157
Average Heart Rate: 72%/131

Day 24-

I’m telling ya my heart rate monitor is going to drive me crazy.  I’m not sure why it works off and on but I’m almost at the point of wanting a new one ha ha.  The one I have right now is for men anyway so a girlie one would be nice.  I have this men’s Polar heart rate monitor but would love this pretty green women’s polar heart rate monitor.

Today’s workout went by really fast.  I like when it does that!

July 24th

28 minutes
193 calories burned
Max Heart Rate: 116%/213 (I don’t think so!)
Average Heart Rate: 69%/127

Day 25-

Ahh today’s workout was tough.  I came home after an hour long spin/cycling class at the gym to do the workout.  It was not easy but I feel great.  This will happen again tomorrow so I’m not looking forward to it.  I’m totally exhausted right now.

28 minutes
189 calories burned
Max Heart Rate: 81%/149
Average Heart Rate: 69%/126

Only 5 days to go on the 30 Day Shred! How is the shred going for you?  For those of you who haven’t done it are you ready to challenge yourself?
