Where is the reset button?

So here we are on August 30th and due to unforseen circumstances I was not able to complete the August challenge I set for myself.  Pretty bummed about that but life happens and I’m ready to move on to September.  Need to find the reset button and move along.

The only workouts for this week that I have to share with you are from yesterday and today.  So here we go.

Saturday-

*Spin/Cycling class
Time: 1 hour 6 min.
Calories burned: 711

Sunday-

*Spin/Cycling class
Time: 1 hour 2 min.
Calories burned: 692

Oh and I did do a 15 min. walk one day last week too.

It was a long week but I’m feeling so much better although still a bit exhausted from everything that transpired over the last week or so.  I am back on target for my daily exercise so September should be good for workouts and goals.  I’ll be posting my September goals and challenge (s) on Tuesday so be on the look out.  Hint: It’s all about The Biggest Loser and more!

I also wanted to say thanks once again for your kindness, notes, emails, etc. in regards to the loss of our sweet Basset Hound.  Our hearts ache every day but it gets a bit easier with each passing day. We remember all the fun times we had with him and laugh (and cry!) about those daily.  Hugs to you all!

How did your workouts go this past week?

Fun times with Yogalates and Spin

So you all know by now that we were pretty bummed out and quite upset that the fitness center we belong to canceled two of the four spin classes we go to every week with no notice.  We were offered a discount and were told we could use the room and spin bikes when the room is empty.  We wanted to try it out last night to see how it might work out for us and although it wasn’t the same as a normal class it was OK. I asked if we could use the sound system to have music but that was not permitted but they did say I could bring in my own ipod player to have music in the room.

I did do a little research early yesterday to see what music that I have in itunes that might work for my own ride so I was able to put together a quick play list for about a  50 minute ride.  I even broke the songs down in to Warm Up, Climbing, Sprinting, Jumps and Single Leg Leads.  I rocked it and burned 600 calories WOW!  I was one sweaty beast LOL

Here is the quickie play list I put together:

Warm Up

-When I Grow Up 4:05

Climbing

-Pocketful of Sunshine 3:23
-Poker Face 3:57
-Disturbia 3:59
-Glamorous 4:07
-The Way I Are 2:59

Sprinting

-It’s Raining Men 5:26
-Don’t Stop the Music 4:27

Lifts/Jumps

-Jai Ho 3:42
-Hips Don’t Lie 3:41

Leads/Single Leg

-Just Dance 4:02

Cool Down

-I’m Yours 4:03
-Soulmate 3:34 (didn’t have time for this song)

I’ll be taking the ipod player on Sunday and Monday so we have the play list and Kev can spin to it as well (and anyone else who shows up too).  There were 4 of us who came in the room to spin on our own last night.  I think I will do some more research and put together a few different play lists we can swap out each Sun. and Mon.  If you have any suggestions for music or spinning certification info, please feel free to leave a comment.  I would really appreciate any help.

Talked to Kev last night about possibly getting our spin certification so we can teach a couples spin class at our favorite Couples resort when we go to Jamaica.  We’ll see…but I think that would be a blast.

There was a yogalates (yoga/pilates) class after spinning and I decided Kev gave me the nudge to stay for it since there would have been only one other person in the class (a guy).  It was fun and gave me a little taste of what yoga and pilates is as I had never done either before.  The instructor said I did well phew!  I think pilates would be more my style than yoga but you never know.

I’m off to see what other play lists I can come up with!

Spinning Class

Angie on the Spin bike 2

Today Kev and I took our first spinning class. I had been so nervous every time he mentioned trying it out and I wish I would’ve tried it out sooner. Today we did Interval and they say that is the most difficult of the Spinning classes. The instructor is the lead Personal Trainer at our gym and has been very helpful. She was running late this morning so wasn’t really able to help me get the bike set up but we are thinking of taking another spinning class tomorrow morning so the instructor for that will help me. The only part of the class that she asked me not to do yet was the jumping (she told Kev that too but he couldn’t help himself).

My calories burned during spinning class were over 550. I thought it was a great workout and the music selection she had was fabulous. I’m so glad I decided to give it a try and look forward to many more spinning classes.

Do you Spin? If so, I would love to hear about your experience. And for those of you on the fence about taking a spinning class, I would recommend that you give it a try.
