More Good Workout Music

Chris sent us the Top 10 Workout Songs For February

In his press release, he states, “This month’s top 10 is full of little surprises. Jay Sean and Nicki Minaj’s “2012″ actually came out months ago. But, the new year (and an apt title) have given it a second wind. Also, Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera got a hip-hop makeover, courtesy of Mac Miller. Outasight got their first taste of chart success. And, Adele turned in a performance so forceful that most folks didn’t seem to mind that the song’s more of a ballad than a traditional workout jam.” [Read more...]

The Top 10 Best Workout Music for December

Given that they’ve both passed on now, it’s been a surprise to see both The King and his son-in-law (The King Of Pop) drop club hits this month. Elvis turns up in a remixed version of “Suspicious Minds.”

It’s the latest in a series of re-worked Elvis tracks that began appearing after Junkie XL had a crossover hit with “A Little Less Conversation” from Ocean’s Eleven.

And, Michael Jackson’s “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” also gets the remix treatment—though the changes are subtle—as part of the new MJ-themed Cirque du Soleil production Immortal.

Music Notes II

Music Can Drive Routine

As I began to familiarize myself with the gym for the first time, I couldn’t help but notice the large number of people exercising while listening to their mp3 player. I was always critical of these people; constantly mumbling under my breath comments regarding their lack of fitness ambition. It seemed to me as if they were there for pleasure, and it’s my personal experience that the rewards of a good cardio workout don’t come from the feeling of pleasure, but more so pain.

When filtering through a men’s body building magazine, you’ll notice articles featuring men that look like Andre the Giant discussing how pain is their friend.  This is sort of the mind state I had going into it. And from over 10 years of following different, yet strenuous daily exercise routines, I’ve learned that in order to keep this up, I was going to have to find more enjoyment in what I was doing.

Weekly Weigh In: May 13

Lost 3 lbs this week which is nice and all but I was not feeling well this weekend so it was due to a slight stomach flu.  Oh well at least the scale is moving even though I’m not working out.  I took off totally from everything for 4 days and then walked Monday and Tuesday.  I still have the pinched nerve and today makes FOUR weeks.  Not sure what the plan is yet but I’m going to do what I can as far as walking right now.

Stats for the week:

Current weight: 216
Goal weight: 140
Pounds left to go: 76

Have a great day!

PS.  I updated the workout music page on my website with more songs that I purchased from Amazon. I so needed more tunes on my ipod.

Exercise music, blog awards, Woman Challenge oh my

I have been at Amazon looking for more exercise music.  Dad and Mom sent me an Amazon gift card for Mother’s Day and I’m thinking about using it to add more music to my ipod.  I always keep a pen and paper with me in the truck for when I hear a song I like and quickly write it down so I don’t forget it.

I also find some great music ideas at Tanya’s site In the Gym.  I met Tanya in Chicago last year and she’s so cool.  Be sure to check out her website.  She has a monthly recap of exercise music, treadmill workouts, songs of the day, etc.  Fun stuff!

Some of the songs I already have although not all were meant for exercise music are listed on the workout music page on my website.

Some of the songs I’m thinking about purchasing:

Boogie Shoes
Hips Don’t Lie
Hot Stuff – Diana Ross
I’m Coming Out – Diana Ross
Poker Face – Lady Gaga
Crank That – Soulja Boy
The Way I Are – Timbaland
Jai Ho – A.R. Rahman

Do you have any exercise music that you recommend?
